reading each other’s resumes, please carefully examine for certain features.

the cover letter:
q Is the letter well
organized, with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion?
Opening:
q States the position applied
for.
q Identifies source
information about the job.
q Tries to avoid “I am a major
in X applying for X,” but uses a more “you-friendly” opening.
Body:
q Summarizes key
qualifications, without repeating resume.
Includes both their education and their experience, and relates how
these will enable the writer to contribute to the organization.
q Includes specific examples,
rather than generalizations.
q Refers to resume.
Closing:
q Indicates special
considerations.

Expresses
interest in an interview.
Tone:
q Is self-assured but not
brash or overconfident.
Style:
q The letter is written in a
style that is efficient and effective.
