Subject:     Group Project Outline Requirements

Your next group-project assignment--the formal outline--will help you organize and condense the data, research findings, and analyses collected so far. Furthermore, the outline you produce will most likely serve as your report's table of contents.

Most outlines follow either an alphanumeric or decimal notation system; decide which format best suits your purposes. For this assignment, your group should construct a "sentence outline" by providing topic or clarifying sections for each (sub) section to make your overall logical arrangement clear. This exercise will force you to analyze carefully how you have arranged your material, and should indicate any remaining gaps.

Note that your final outline--and table of contents--may alter slightly between this assignment's completion and the handing in of your final report. Many writers do not outline until the final draft of their report, using it as a model for their table of contents, as a check on their reasoning, and as a way of revealing to their readers a clear line of thinking.
